Case Study
New Musical Express (NME) is a British music journalism magazine published since March 1952. It is largely associated with rock, alternative and indie music.
There is a mid shot of the cover star which is a typical convention as well as having the cover star directly look into the camera (direct address). There is a 3 colour scheme of black white and red. This makes the cover star stand out and also makes the cover lines stand out as well.
The writing is red on a white background which makes the cover line stand out and attract the attention of the consumer. Also a reference to a popular book/movie is made (twilight) which could make fans of the movie read the mag.
The contents page contains a group photo and a advert. The page contains the same colour scheme of red black and white as the cover page and also keep the same style of font which makes the page look organised and professional. Also the page is visually busy and clustered which even though keeps the reader interested it can be unappealing to some consumer who may be bored with all the words they have to read.
The DPS contains a close up of a celebrity with a eye catching header and a creative sub heading. The header makes the reader want to read and find out about the celeb as the heading has caught their attention. The Colour scheme is pink yellow and white. Also the writing is separated to 11 columns which is used to keep the reader interested and not have them become bored for all the mass reading. There is also a cartoony sketch of the celeb of the mag which creates a bridge for age levels as people may reader this page because they found the image interesting.

Evaluation
Self Evaluation:
I Believe that my that my cover image and colour scheme was chosen correctly and made my mag stand out and look unique. I also believe that my idea of editing and cropping out the background of my cover star made my mag look creative and different which may look more interesting to a consumer. Furthermore, I believe that my contents page is structured correctly as it has enough amounts of images and content.
Peer:
"the colour scheme for your contents page clashes too much as there is a lot of red. not many cover lines make the cover page look empty. however, the quality of the picture is good. the contents page looks better and it's consistent as its still following the same colour scheme."
"The colour for the background of your magazine front cover clashes with the cover stars jumper. The photography is effective due to the use of direct mode of address. There could have been more conventions of a magazine front cover like more cover stories and your manipulation of the masthead could be improved. The colour scheme is consistent however the fonts you have used is not consistent and can be a bit hard to read."
"The colour scheme on the front cover matches the contents page which is more professional, there is good image quality in the front cover and the contents page, and the contents page is visually busy. However the font is not consistent between the front cover and the contents page and the cover lines for the front cover could be spaced out. Overall, it's a very good magazine."
My peer thought that my colour scheme was unappealing and clashing which made the mag seem unappealing. Also they believed that my cover didn't have enough amount of cover lines and the way I cropped the background of my cover star my the mag seem unprofessional.
Improvements:
